How much direct sun do chickens need?
Chickens don’t need a specific amount of direct sun, but they do benefit from natural light for their health and egg production. Ideally, they should have 12-16 hours of daylight to maintain good laying cycles. However, they also need shade and shelter to avoid overheating, especially in hot climates.
They do like a bit of sunbathing and having a dust bath. You can let them free roam if possible with some fencing in a sunny area when someone is around.
