Keeping your flock hydrated when it's below zero for long periods
The Omlet Insulated Chicken Waterer has been rigorously tested in extreme winter conditions to ensure reliable performance for your flock. During testing at –20°C, the Waterer successfully kept the water in a liquid state for 10 hours, with the drinking nipples remaining fully functional throughout.
While the design of the Omlet Insulated Chicken Waterer greatly improves performance, it cannot prevent freezing indefinitely. In continuously freezing conditions, or when temperatures rise above freezing only briefly, the water will eventually freeze.
To ensure the best performance:
- Replace and refill the water daily with fresh water to start each day with a higher internal temperature.
- If the Waterer needs to be left unchecked for more than a day, we recommend using it alongside a suitable water heater to maintain a constant supply of unfrozen water.
These steps will help keep your flock hydrated and healthy throughout the winter months.
How the Insulation Works
Similar to a high-quality flask or cool box, the Omlet Insulated Chicken Waterer is designed to maintain the internal water temperature for as long as possible when exposed to cold environments. This insulation slows down the rate at which the water cools and delays freezing during cold snaps.
Our tests showed that, compared with a non-insulated Waterer, the Omlet Insulated Chicken Waterer can prevent freezing for up to five times longer, significantly extending the time your chickens have access to fresh, drinkable water.
