Will the Waterer freeze?

A full waterer will keep water fluid and drinkable for a maximum of 10 hours at -5°F/-20°C if using the nipples. For best results in winter weather, we recommend that you:

  • Fill to full every day with water at room temperature or max 86°F/30°C.

  • Place the waterer out of the wind as windchill can reduce the amount of time water stays fluid.

The waterer is not heated, but the insulation significantly increases the amount of time the water stays fluid. In freezing temperatures the water will eventually freeze, so you should always check your chickens' water daily.

If you're not able to refill the water as required, adding a suitable heater will protect against freezing.
